Posted by breakingnews on January 28, 2006

SUGPON, Ilocos Sur — A total of 168,000 fully-grown marijuana plants and 70,000 seedlings
worth P46.4 million million were uprooted by lawmen in the mountainous tri-boundaries of Ilocos Sur, La Union and Benguet.

Ilocos Sur Police Director Sr. Supt. George Regis said on Wednesday said the 5.5-hectare marijuana plantation in sitios Bekes, Nagawa and Nacneng were reportedly tilled by Santos Alakdis and his brother Pedro.

The two were not around when lawmen swooped down on their houses.

One Springfield rifle was found by the raiding lawmen at the house of Santos Alakdis. They also found four pieces of dynamites, five blasting caps, one hand grenade, three pieces of detonating cord, three meters long each, and eight clips for M-1 garand rifle.

Also found in the houses of the Alakdis were two kilos of dried marijuana leaves.

Chief Inspector Jacqueline Lagiwid of the Ilocos Sur police provincial office said the operations were covered by four search warrants.

Regis said the raiders took only samples of the marijuana plants and seedlings to the Police Regional Office in San Fernando, La Union, and the rest were burned at the site with town officials of Sugpon as witnesses. (PNA)
