Holdup men take P800,000 from bank employees

VILLASIS, Pangasinan — Holdup men struck early Tuesday morning along an isolated portion of a provincial road in barangay Unzad here and robbed two bank employees of more than P800,000.

Chief Inspector Jimmy Agtarap, chief of police of Villasis, identified those held up as Alfredo Fernandez, 47, inspector/appraiser of the Rural Bank of Malasiqui, Villasis branch; and Teodulfo Gamboa, 24, bank clerk.

The two were on board a motorcycle bound for Villasis from Malasiqui town when three hooded men armed with hand guns and were riding in another motorcycle,trailed the bank employees and finally caught up with them.

The suspects carted away foreign currencies worth appropriximately P280,000, P54,000 in cash and P500,000 worth of checks, whose payment was however stopped few hours after the incident.

All the money and checks were picked up by both Fernandez and Gamboa from the main office of the Rural Bank of Malasiqui, located in downtown Malasiqui Tuesday morning.

After taking the loot, the three suspects sped towards the direction of the town proper of Malasiqui.

Agtarap said both Fernandez and Gamboa noticed the plate number of the motorcycle of the suspects.

But when the police verified this with the Land Transportation Office, they found that the motorcycle was registered with one Liberato Macaranas, also of Malasiqui. The owner of the motorcycle claimed he lost the vehicle’s plate in 2002. (PNA)
